it's too hot to garden

attack life
We are late getting our plants into the ground this year. Mom and I went to the nursery yesterday (so we were surrounded by greenery, even if we didn't do anything else St. Patrick's Day-ish) to pick out vegetables. I got a gardenia, too. Now I have to look up camellias and gardenias to see how to take care of them so they don't die.
This year we're planting okra! Yay! And tomatoes. Lots and lots of tomatoes. Damn, Mom's garden tomatoes are yummy. I had some last fall. So part of today mom has been outside fertilizing and weeding the plot, so we can plant stuff. (I say "we" in a very general sense - I hope to help a bit and learn something, but really it's all Mom.)
We also mopped the floors (several times) to get the last of the dust and crud off the tiles, and then we wiped down several pieces of furniture (the tiling got dust positively everywhere) and set up the den so that we can once again be comfy and watch TV. It's very different now, and we're debating some other major changes to furnishings and room usage. Very exciting.
I got to go on a little trip with Peter today, which was excellent, even if it was only as far as the Popeye's to get lunch. He shared some cool music with me, and I feel that I shall have to swipe some of his CDs very soon.
Everytime I talk to him I start wishing that he could sit down sometime with Tim and Lisa and talk food, label design, beer, wine, etc. I have to get him to New York at some point.

Also: a good essay on religious discrimination vs. dissent from On Faith.

And, it is very difficult to explain the politics of an alternative history Rome when the alternate doesn't have two consuls. Weirdness ensues. I can't believe it - the series ends next week!
